Why I love working out at home

After posting my latest home workout video on Instagram it got me thinking about why I like it so much as I have definitely been converted! Although I have a good routine of going to the gym for my workouts, I also love to work out at home at least once a week. It started me thinking that I get so many messages from women who just don’t like the gym for various reasons.

Do you feel too self conscious to go to they gym?

I know from my own experience walking into a busy gym can feel like the most intimidating experience and I needed ALL MY COURAGE that first time! Working out at home can mean you can just focus on what you do and not spend your time on feeling not so slim, young, fit or whatever we women torture ourselves with. Reminder though…we do all have to start somewhere.

Low cost

Also, if funds are low, you can just purchase a few items to start for about £20 to start, or you can do an effective body weight workout without any weights at all (see my health and fitness page for an example YouTube vid).

If time is tight it is now my go-to rather than completely write off a potential feel good endorphin rush as a home workout can be a great option to get into a fitness routine and healthy habit. Your muscles don’t know whether you are in a gym or at home so as long as you’re putting in the work you will feel and see the benefits over time.

How you can start

This is how I did it. I purchased some dumbbells of 2 different weights…light and mid weight. I got a step to mix it up a bit and a kettle bell for added variation.

Apps

I have always (since I started this fitness journey) saved Instagram workouts I love to my phone and although I do recommend getting confidence and knowledge from a personal trainer to start with, you can just start. There are so many fitness apps that can make it fun to workout and Ladder is great for anyone who would like to seek some guidance for example. I have lots of Instagram friends who use the Sweat with Kayla Itsines app for example which has a great community feel #BBG …and I am sure I am going to join in with this one day soon. Another one I have read about is Keelo which designs your workouts for you if you need inspiration. So many options to get into a fitness habit!

Plan it

Plan when is the best time and schedule it into your mind as a commitment. For me it is always the morning as that is my most effective time, but whatever works for you put it in your calendar or diary as you would for any event that you don’t want to miss…this is for you… make it important!

Do you love working out at home…or are you a gym bunny and like to keep home away from exercise? Let me know if you have any insights to share!
